Halo Reach Daily is dedicated to my Dad, who taught me what it means to take on a Challenge.

Wait, didn’t we just run a week of special screenshots like, a couple days ago? Yes, yes, yes…but the new Playlist Update is so epic that we just couldn’t resist. And did you really expect us to pass up a special week named Classic Sack??

So, even if you think that name sounds vaguely pornographic — and especially if you do — head into one of the Classic remake maps or Action Sack gametypes and start snapping some pix!

Send screenshots to, or just make a file recommendation to us on XBox (Gamertag: Ender Xer0, with a zero), and we’ll take care of the rest. Remember: we’re not looking for Forge art or random pix from the Internet; it should be a screenshot of YOU!

TYPES: Completion, Kills, Score, Win
SETTINGS: Campaign, Firefight, Multiplayer
TOTAL TIME: 75-120 minutes

Type: Kills
Setting: Multiplayer
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 15-20 minutes (Concurrent with Five Time Champ Challenge)
Value: ★★★★★
Reward: 1500

Kill 50 enemies in Multiplayer Matchmaking.

Just because we love this picture so much:

Type: Score
Setting: Firefight
Difficulty: Grind
Time: 20 minutes
Value: ★★★★★
Reward: 1000

Score 500,000 points on any Firefight map.

Wow, that’s a lotta zeros. Be just and fear not: The Challenge doesn’t say Firefight Matchmaking, so you’re able to tackle it in ANY Firefight game, including a Custom Match like the one in which you scored your HEAT IN THE PIPE Achievement. In fact, this Challenge is exactly a half-PIPE, but you’ll also score some cRedits for it, along with another notch toward your Weekly Challenge.

Tip Of The Day

The Internets are filled with Custom Game settings for a half-million points, but if you want to save yourself the search time you can just download HRD’s own Firefight setup — basically a glorified version of the Gruntmageddon Custom Game we’ve used on Corvette for Challenges that required legions of alien corpses, but with the high-ticket Brute Chieftans standing in for the waddling tykes. (They’ll still crash the party during the Bonus Round for some Multikill multiplier madness.)

And, just a note for those who recoil from what would appear to be naked cRedit boosting: Remember, using ordinary Firefight settings, it would take more than 24 hours of nonstop gameplay to actually score half-a-million points, for what is a Daily Challenge; in other words, mathematically impossible. This method is exactly how Bungie expects you to do it — so go blow some stuff up and have some fun.

Skulls On

Type: Completion
Setting: Campaign
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 5-10 minutes
Value: ★★★★
Reward: 2500

Complete a Campaign mission on Heroic with these Skulls activated: Tough Luck, Thunderstorm, Tilt, Mythic.

You probably know all of Kat-and-Jun’s opening dialog by now, since Bungie is once again daring you to power through this using Nightfall’s Midnight Run. If you’re a regular reader of this site, you know what to do; if not, just click on the standing link at the top of the page for a complete description, or just check out the video walkthrough below:

Type: Wins
Setting: Multiplayer
Difficulty: Grind
Time: 45-90 minutes (Concurrent with Fire When Ready Challenge)
Value: ★★★★
Reward: 1750

Win 5 games in Multiplayer Matchmaking.

Not much to say here; play enough games and you’ll rack up five wins.

TAKE NOTE, however: Despite what it may say on your Reach game stats page over at, simply finishing in the top half of a Free-For-All game will NOT register as a win for your Challenge progress here — you’ll need to place First, or not at all.

Similarly, avoid any Objective gametypes that frequently end in a tieCapture The Flag or Assault, for example — since although your game score registers a win for both sides (that is, you both came in “first”), the Weekly Challenge is not so generous; either one team takes the top spot, or both sides lose.

  • Avoid Big Team Battle and Invasion; though generally worth more cRedits, they also take longer, and you’re targeting wins here, not just cR. Plus, you can spend twice as much time in a Big Team game and still have a 50% chance of finishing without any Challenge progress; two smaller-squad games will earn just as many credits in the same time, but double your chances at a win.
  • Remember when I said to avoid Objective games? Well, just as it does with most things, Grifball breaks the rules. Games are usually quick and generally won’t end in a tie, and so all other things being equal you’ll go in with about a 50-50 chance of pulling Host and scoring the win. Plus you’ll be crushing skulls as part of the Fire When Ready Challenge anyway, so might as well get your Hammer on.

Type: Meta
Setting: All
Difficulty: Grind
Time: 4 Challenges/Day
Value: ★★★★★
Reward: 18000

Complete 24 Daily Challenges this week.

HOLY CRAP, that’s just about the biggest Challenge bonus in the all-time history of Challenge bonuses. Yow!

Not much to say, other than if you haven’t started yet, you’re shit-out-of-luck. If you started on time, then keep going: you can technically miss an entire day, but you’ll have to complete every single other Daily Challenge or you’ll mathematically eliminate yourself. So, better to nail them all during the week to give yourself some breathing room on the weekend.

And, if you think this is too much crazy for a videogame to ask: Just remember that the Daily Challenges average out to about 6,000 cR per day. This Weekly actually means that, in addition to all the cRedits you’ll earn just from actually tackling the Challenges, you’ll have cashed out an extra 54,000 cR in Daily and Weekly bonuses — but only if you finish.

So, crazy? Sure. But 54K will make a man do crazy, yeah?
