Screenshot Of The Day this morning courtesy of xDEATHCRUNCHERX, who demonstrates what happens when you add nuclear burritos to your arsenal. Just kidding! Please don’t kill us. We’re just jealous that our own screenshots don’t look this freakin’ cool. Thanks, DC! Everyone, click to enlarge!

Meanwhile, if you haven’t done it already, yo: Send your screenshots to, or just make a file recommendation to us on XBox (Gamertag: Ender Xer0, with a zero), and we’ll take care of the rest. Remember: we’re not looking for plain Forge art or random pix from the Internet; it should be a screenshot of YOU!

Don’t blink: you’ll blow right past this on your way to the Grunt Spelunking Challenge (see below) and won’t even notice.

Special Weapon

Value: ★★★★★
Reward: 1000

Kill 100 enemies in Firefight Matchmaking with precision weapons.

Two main options here, each one a brain-ventilating headshotpalooza of good wholesome fun:

  • If you’re with friends or don’t mind some randoms in Co-op, hunt for a Sniperfight on Glacier to tackle all four Challenges at once; see below for details on the Demon and Grunt Spelunking Challenges.
  • If you feel like flying solo, simply load up Gruntpocalypse in Score Attack; do it on Glacier and you’ll be knocking back only three of the Challenges (no Elites, sorry) but you’ll have map selection control and will notch this Challenge before the first Round ends. (You can, of course, skip the Grunts for a paltry serving of Elites in standard Score Attack, but at that point you might as well simply find a Glacier match that lasts three Rounds instead of one.)
  • Either way, keep an eye on your ammo, and make your way back to base before the clip goes dry; your pistol doesn’t count as a precision weapon, even when it scores Headshots, so you’ll be wasting kills that don’t count toward the Challenge. Also remember that while you don’t need a Headshot for a Challenge point, the medal earns you extra Firefight cR, and your ammo will last longer before the need to restock.

Time: 90-120 minutes (Concurrent with other Firefight Challenges)
Value: ★★★★
Reward: 3000

Kill 1000 enemies on Glacier in Firefight Matchmaking.

Yow! A thousand enemies?? That sounds almost like a Weekly. OK, whatever. It gives us the chance to say “spelunking” repeatedly.

Quite obviously, you’ll spend most of your time today either on Glacier or cursing Bungie for not prioritizing it in the voting cycle. If you’re lucky enough to get a Glacier Sniperfight in Arcade, you’ll be able to gleefully work all four Firefight Challenges today at once. If you’re having trouble getting Glacier to slot, or your retarded Rocketfight randoms in Matchmaking aren’t chasing the Challenges, you can head into Score Attack for more map selection control, though you’ll need as many as eight or nine matches to register your 1K.

On the plus side, Glacier does feature one of the best sniping perches in all of Halo, atop the West Tower of the Main Entrance (see the pic below). You’ll need to find the sweet spot outside the soft-kill-zone, but it’s pretty big and pretty easy. Just select Jetpack as your loadout, float up to your sniper nest and start sending the Covies on their Great Journey.

Special Enemy

Type: Kills / Special Enemy
Setting: Firefight
Difficulty: Grind
Time: 15-20 minutes (Concurrent with other Firefight Challenges)
Value: ★★★★★
Reward: 1200

Kill 30 Elites in Firefight Matchmaking.

Firefight Arcade has rendered the Demon Challenges vastly easier, since games now feature entire Waves of Elites and three Rounds worth of them as well. Still, it won’t be that easy to string up 30 mandibles in a single match — particularly with other players hunting for Dino meat as well — so be prepared for their arrival.

The Heretics actually present more of a threat than the Boss-Wave Elites, since they’re way more in number and rock instant-kill weapons like aimbot-controlled Sniper Rifles; a helluva lot more dangerous than some solo Gold Elite with a melee weapon.

As mentioned above, a Sniperfight on Glacier is your best bet for tackling all four Challenges together today, but once you’ve notched your precision weapon kills you can start to look for Arcade playlists with concussive weapons — Grenade Launchers, FRGs, and of course Concussion Rifles — to bounce Elites around the map. That’ll actually throw off their aim and extend your lifespan amid their headshot crossfire.

Drop Shield will also buy you some extra time — but make sure to use it where you’ve got other cover as well, since it won’t last long under sustained unlimited Sniper and Rocket fire.
