DAILY CHALLENGES

Summary

TYPES: Kills, Killstyle, Special Enemy, Special Weapon
SETTINGS: Any Game Mode, Multiplayer
AVERAGE DIFFICULTY: Easy
TOTAL TIME: 30-40 minutes
OVERALL VALUE: ★★★★★
TOTAL CREDITS: 4910

BLASTIN’ AND RELAXIN’

Any Mode

Kills

Type: Kills
Setting: Any Game Mode
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 5 minutes
Value: ★★★★★
Reward: 1350

Kill 180 enemies in any game mode in Reach.

Take on this one last. You’ll rack up kills working your way through today’s other Challenges; for leftovers, our standard recommendations:

  • By far the most convenient carnage remains at the opening of the Campaign’s ONI Sword Base mission. If you know it and don’t like the stigma of naked credit boosting, skip down. If you don’t know it, you can find a detailed rundown in the Owning On ONI permanent link on the top of this page.
  • But, if you don’t like the open credit farming that goes with Target Locating, simply pocket some quick kills in a Custom Game instead. Click on the Grunt Game Settings link at the top of the page for instructions on the best settings; you’ll also find a Custom Game there already set up for you.
EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISTRIBUTION

Multiplayer

Special Weapon

Kills

Type: Kills / Special Weapon
Setting: Multiplayer
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 5 minutes
Value: ★★★★★
Reward: 1000

Earn 3 kills with Ordnance Weapons in a Multiplayer Matchmaking game.

So, what the hell is an Ordnance Weapon? Well, you know them better as the Rockets, Laser, FRG, Concussion Rifle, Grenade and Plasma Launchers — pretty much what we lovingly refer to as Power Weapons.

Before the Action Sack playlist update, you’d actually need to go out of your way for an ordnance weapon, fighting off enemies and teammates alike for the chance to score the Rocket Launcher (as if that was different than any other day). Now? You’ve got a salad bar of options: Dino Blasters, Splockets, Rocket CTF, BOOM! Ball, the works. Play any of ’em for five minutes and you’ve got the Challenge.

CHADDLESBY’S JUSTICE

Multiplayer

Special Enemy

Kills

Type: Kills, Special Enemy
Setting: Multiplayer
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 10 minutes
Value: ★★★★★
Reward: 1360

Avenge your teammates’ deaths 3 times in Multiplayer Matchmaking.

Who the hell is Chaddlesby? Okay, whatever. It’s not like the other Challenge titles make sense half the time either.

Anyway, apparently Chaddlesby is interested in justice, which is really all your DMR needs to know. The Avenger Medal requires that you dispatch a teammate’s killer within a few moments (about four seconds) of his death; your best bet for that is Grifball, where combat becomes a clusterfuck fiesta of hammerswings virtually guaranteed to nail a teammate’s killer multiple times each match.

Not a fan of the dude with the bomb in orange? Well, okay, you’re adopted, but anyway. Head into Multiteam, since (ideally) you’ll be traveling in pairs or threes and team-shooting with your partners — meaning if one of you gets killed, the others have the setup to score the medal against a weakened opponent. Simply play enough games, and you’ll notch the Challenge.

Most other Team playlists will work well enough too, though avoid SWAT and Snipers, since these gametypes tend toward long-range kills from defensible positions, making it less common you’ll dispatch a teammate’s killer right away. Also look for smaller, tighter maps, where close combat — particularly melees and grenade spam — will help score the medal before your teammate’s killer escapes.

NEUROSCIENCE

Multiplayer

Single Match

Headshot

Kills

Type: Killstyle
Setting: Multiplayer
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 10-20 minutes
Value: ★★★★★
Reward: 1200

Kill 10 enemies with headshots in a Multiplayer Matchmaking game.

Only four letters really make a difference here, and they’re spelled SWAT. Bungie has been kind enough to make this its own playlist for those laggers and aimbotters among us, since both the DMR and Magnum can take out opponents with a single headshot no matter what kind of fantastic armored-helmet-from-the-future, you’d-think-these-things-could-stop-a-bullet-by-now they happen to wear.

In fact, your main obstacle — apart from people shooting you in the back of the skull — will be to rack up 10 headshots before the game ends. SWAT games run to 50, and if you’ve either matched against a particularly good team or with particularly good teammates, you could find yourself short of the bonus just as the score tops out.

If that keeps happening, recruit some friends to coordinate your efforts; an entire team can earn this Challenge in a single game if they work together.
